Moments Like These
There’s something timeless about walking a quiet country road, this time I was west of Wauchope in the heart of the Hastings Valley. The air is crisp, the morning stillness broken only by the soft call of birds waking to the day. With camera in hand, each step reveals new textures of the land — the weathered fence posts, the open paddocks, and the silhouettes of native gums reaching toward the sky. Then, just as the sun breaks the horizon, a golden sunstar bursts through the bush, spilling light across the valley and bringing the whole world to life.
In moments like these, the beauty of rural Australia speaks for itself. It’s not just about capturing a photograph, it’s about pausing long enough to see the wonder in the ordinary — the way light transforms the landscape, the way quiet roads tell stories of generations past. What more could a man want, and where else would he rather be, than here in the Hastings, surrounded by the raw and unspoiled beauty of the Mid North Coast?
And as a special note to a good friend, Al William, this post is in your honour, go well my friend, fly high and may your sunstars always be bright like this one. Al was the first person to really show me how to capture Sun Stars, he was a great guy and will surely be missed, he will however be sitting beside the fella upstairs and showing him how to get good sun stars and long exposures too.
