Port Macquarie Photography Workshop Feb 2025
February 13-16, 2025, John Armytage and I hosted another Port Macquarie photography workshop, and it turned into a fantastic few days of shooting, teaching, and sharing our passion for photography with a great group of participants.
Over the four days, we mixed it up with a wide range of locations. Sunrise shoots along the Port Macquarie coastline gave us everything from sweeping headland views at Tacking Point Lighthouse to dramatic rock shelves at Oxley Beach. We also spent time inland at places like Watui Falls and onto Queens Lake, for another amazing sunrise where everyone could work on slower, more considered shots with reflections, waterfalls, and long exposures over Queens Lake.
One of the highlights was an afternoon at Billabong Zoo, where we guided the group through wildlife photography techniques — a fun challenge that really pushed people to think differently about light, focus, and timing. We also explored the Sea Acres Rainforest, which offered a change of pace and the chance to work with softer, filtered light among the palms and ferns.
Of course, sunsets didn’t disappoint either. From Bago Bluff to the backroads near Wauchope, we had some amazing conditions, with glowing skies and rolling landscapes bathed in golden light.
Outside of the shooting, we made time for good food, plenty of laughs, and the kind of camaraderie that always makes these workshops memorable. Everyone walked away with some beautiful images, new skills, lasting memories.
